The short version
NewZealandFans collects as little personal information as we can get away with. You can browse the entire directory without an account, and the only personal information we hold is what you send us yourself. We handle it in line with the information privacy principles of the Privacy Act 2020.
Data we collect automatically
Browsing the site also records a page view. That record contains a random visitor ID stored in your browser's local storage (not a cookie), the page address, the site that referred you, your browser's user-agent string, any campaign parameters in the link you arrived through, and the country our CDN derives from your IP address. We use it to see which pages and profiles people find useful. It is never sold and never used to build advertising profiles.
What we collect
When you use the Contact or Add profile forms we receive the details you type in — usually a name or alias, an email address and the content of your message or listing. That is the full extent of it; browsing needs no registration and leaves no personal details with us.
What we use it for
Solely to answer your enquiry or to review, publish and manage your directory listing. We never sell personal information, never use it for marketing, and never pass it to third parties for their own purposes.
Cookies and the age gate
The site sets strictly necessary cookies and local storage — mainly to remember that you have confirmed you are 18 or over — along with basic, aggregated visit statistics. Clear or block them whenever you like through your browser settings.
Where the data lives
The site runs on global infrastructure, so form submissions may be stored on servers outside New Zealand. Keeping the data minimal is our main safeguard: there is very little to protect because we hold very little.
How long we keep it
Messages sent through our forms are kept only while we deal with them. Information tied to a live listing is kept while the listing is published and deleted after removal, unless the law requires us to keep it longer.
Your rights and complaints
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you may ask what personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct or delete it — send the request through the contact form and we will respond within 20 working days. If you believe we have mishandled your information, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner; we would welcome the chance to put it right directly first.
